What is the GS Score?

The GolfShac Score (GS Score) is our proprietary player ranking system that measures performance across GolfShac tournaments.
It’s based on an Elo-style formula that adjusts your score after each event, considering:

  • Your placement
  • The strength of the field
  • Number of competing players

A higher GS Score means you’re performing better against the competition over time. Keep climbing to earn badges, unlock achievements, and
cement your place at the top of the leaderboard.

Understanding the GS Score

Starting point: Every player begins with a GS Score of 1500 — a neutral starting rating.

How scores change:

  • After each tournament, your GS Score goes up or down based on your placement and the GS Scores of the players you competed against.
  • Beating higher-rated players earns more points; losing to lower-rated players costs more points.
  • Results that match expectations cause smaller changes.

When your score “normalizes”: Your GS Score typically settles into an accurate reflection of your skill after about
5–7 tournaments. New players can see bigger swings at first as the system learns their level.

What the Numbers Mean (Skill Gap Guide)

Estimated win chance based on GS Score difference
GS SCORE DIFFERENCEEXPECTED WIN % (HIGHER-RATED PLAYER)
0 points~50% (even match)
50 points~57%
100 points~64%
200 points~76%
400 points~91%

Example: If Player A has 1600 and Player B has 1500, Player A is expected to win about 64% of the time.

Why it works

  • The GS Score adapts quickly when you’re new, then stabilizes as more results come in.
  • Strong performances against tougher fields are rewarded more heavily.
  • It creates a competitive, fair ranking system for all skill levels.
